Darwins Barnacle

Elminius modestus

Description:
Darwins Barnacle
Facts:

First recorded from Southampton water this small 8-10mm barnacle soon spread around the UK. It was almost certainly transported from its native Australasia by hitching a ride on the bottom of ships. It is now very common and appears to be here to stay.
It not only outcompetes our native species but manages to survive in areas where they do not.
