Facts:

This far Eastern species spends most of its life in freshwater only returning to salt water to breed. It is being seen in increasing numbers in the tidal Thames. It's habit of burrowing into riverbanks may pose a threat to flood defences and other bankside constructions.

Originally found in 1935, became established in 1970's

Far East- China and Korea
Location:
Thames Estuary and other waters in the catchment area.

Suspected to be on the increase

Comments:
Burrows into bank causing possible subsidence, may displace freshwater crayfish.
