Extremely invasive species originally brought over for the aquatic gardening market. It spreads very rapidly when it gets into a new water course. It can grow up to 30cm a day! This reapidly deoxygenates waters results in death of fish and invertebrates. It forms dense mats in water courses that can cause flooding and it outcompetes many rare and endangered aquatic native plants
