Facts:

This spider is being discovered regularly in the South of England and with the apparent rise in average summer temperatures it seems likely that it will appear with even greater regularity. It can give a painful bite and there have been cases of persons being bitten in the UK. It superficially resembles the European Black Widow at a cursory glance but is nowhere near as dangerous.

First recorded in early 1900s but numbers increased greatly in the1980s
